The agreements were signed with the prospective tenants of the Astrakhan port SEZ at the Forum "Transport of Russia"

On the first day of the Forum and Exhibition "Transport of Russia" Igor Babushkin, the Governor of the Astrakhan Region signed  in the presence of Yevgeny Dietrich, the Russian Minister of Transport a series of agreements with prospective tenants of the port special economic zone.

The Sarma is one of the main suppliers of inert materials, which also rents out special equipment for the construction of roads and bridges of federal, municipal and local significance in the European part of Russia. Their goal is to implement two investment projects in the new port SEZ. One of them is the construction and operation of the railway infrastructure to keep the work of the zone. The total length of the railway lines will be about 14 km. The second project is setting up a logistics centre that will provide services for the transhipment and transportation of containers and other goods passing through the new port SEZ. The total investment for the two projects will amount to more than 2 billion rubles.

An agreement was also signed with the Tekleor, a company which provides non-chemical antimicrobial processing services with the help of accelerated electrons of food, personal supplies, cosmetics, processing aids and other products. The company plans to create a centre of antimicrobial processing of raw plant and animal materials in the port SEZ. The investment will amount to an estimated 450 million rubles.

Another company - Murphy Group Holdings UK Ltd is experienced in creating logistics centres, developing new routes and organizing international multimodal transportation. The implemented projects of the company are the organization of logistics of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, the setup and management of customs and logistics centres in Azerbaijan and Georgia. Currently, the company is developing additional routes from China to the Mediterranean Sea and from India to the countries of Northern and Western Europe and the customs and logistics centre is expanding further. The company plans to build one of these centres in the Astrakhan port SEZ. The volume of investments will be estimated at 170 million rubles.

Igor Babushkin, the Governor of the Astrakhan Region says that appealing to new prospective tenants is an important part of the implementation of the President Vladimir Putin’s instruction – to create a port SEZ in the Astrakhan region as part of the development of the North-South international transport corridor.

Sergey Milushkin, the Director General of PJSC SEZ Lotos explained that the companies which signed the agreements of intent showed a high interest in the development of the North-South international transport corridor and were ready to invest in the newly created Astrakhan port SEZ. “We started working with some of them when the industrial SEZ Lotus was being developed. Since then they showed interest in the logistics projects and the port infrastructure development in the Astrakhan region. Due to the President Putin’s instruction to set up a port SEZ in the Astrakhan region and the comprehensive support of the Governor of the Astrakhan region to this project, we contacted these companies and began to explore it,” says Sergey Milushkin, the Director General of PJSC SEZ Lotos.

Recall that PLC Caspiy is intending to implement the investment project for the port construction to process containerized cargo in the Astrakhan port SEZ. The investments are more than 15 billion rubles. On the margins of Transport Week, STLK, PLC Caspiy and PJSC SEZ “Lotos” signed an agreement on approaches to the implementation of this project.

Transport Week is an annual business event held in accordance with the order of the Government of Russian Federation, which includes a series of nationwide and international activities dedicated to the transport industry.  Of the multitude of events that occur during Transport Week, the Forum and Exhibition "Transport of Russia" remain key events. This year, the booth of the Astrakhan region and the SEZ "Lotus" was presented at the Exhibition as the cargo base of the North-South international transport corridor. A port special economic zone is being created in the region as a part of its development.  The Transport of Russia Forum and Exhibition is annually attended by over 10 000 people.
