Astrakhan SEZ plans to start mass production of composite vessels
The business plan of the investment project for the production of innovative small-size special purpose vessels on the territory of the Special Economic Zone "Lotus" today has been successfully adopted by the Supervisory Board. The project is being implemented by the Russian company “Marine Composite Shipbuilding”. The governor of the Astrakhan region Alexander Zhilkin, who is the chairman of the Supervisory Board put a high value on the project. Until the end of the month, the company's business plan will be submitted to the Expert Council of the SEZ "Lotus".

The project provides serial production of a new type of product – SC-39 high-speed small vessel intended for patrolling coastal, border and port water areas, participation in search and rescue operations on water as well as chemical and analytical environmental monitoring. The initiator of the project is the company "Albatros", which has 12 years of experience in shipbuilding and ship repair industry.

"The uniqueness of the designed speedboat SC-39 is in the use of a composite material - fiberglass. It is lighter and cheaper than metal and is not subject to corrosive water, resistant to negative sunlight and low temperatures. Such boats are safer, longer in operation and fully comply with modern safety requirements," said Alexander Ivanov, Director General of Marine Composite Shipbuilding.

According to the business plan, the total investment costs for the project will amount to more than 1.5 billion rubles. The estimated production capacity is 20 boats per year. The project will create 116 workplaces, and will also allow to activate adjacent industries in the region, in particular – manufacture of fiberglass.

"This project will be the first for our region, where composite shipbuilding is not yet represented and it will create a new stage in the development of the industry. This project is very important for us, since shipbuilding is one of the priority areas for the development of the SEZ. Therefore, we are already working out the opportunities for its support through the federal programs for industry development," comments Sergey Milushkin, Director General of PJSC "SEZ "Lotus".
